Eleven seconds. That's the whole audition. Employers now spend an average of 11.2 seconds looking at a resume before moving on, according to a 2026 hiring study covered by Forbes. That is not a typo, and it is not an exaggeration for effect: in the time it takes to read this sentence out loud, a recruiter has already formed an opinion about whether you are worth a second look. That number matters less than what fills it. During those 11 seconds, attention concentrates on four things: your name, your current or most recent job title, your most recent company, and the first two to three bullet points under that role.
